DIY Music Note Mezuzah Kit — A stitched piece of Jewish home.

Create a meaningful handmade mezuzah cover with this DIY needlecraft kit, featuring a flowing music note motif in layered blue hues. The design is hand-painted onto canvas and made to fit inside the included clear acrylic mezuzah case, so your finished piece becomes a beautiful display for your home's doorway.

This project is designed for stitchers who enjoy a little more detail and don’t mind a few fiddly steps along the way. The hand-painted canvas can be stitched using either cross-stitch or needlepoint-style embroidery techniques. The stitching itself uses simple full cross-stitches or needlepoint stitches, plus basic backstitch, but the finishing process requires a bit of patience and careful handling.

Kit options:

Choose the version that best fits your stash, your schedule, and how much of the full stitchy experience you want included.

Project Kit

Best if you already have embroidery floss and basic stitching supplies at home.

Includes:

  • Hand-painted needlework canvas
  • 4" clear acrylic mezuzah case
  • Printed color instructions
  • Basic stitching and finishing guidance

Complete Kit

Best if you want the full project bundled together and ready to stitch.

Includes everything in the Project Kit, plus:

  • Pre-cut 6-strand DMC embroidery floss
Please note: floss is provided in pre-cut lengths, not as full skeins.
  • Embroidery needle
  • Needle threader
  • Some additional stitchy goodies to get you started

Please note:

This kit includes the decorative stitched insert and clear acrylic mezuzah case only. A kosher mezuzah scroll is not included.

Skill level:

Intermediate / Confident Beginner

This project is best suited for stitchers or crafters who have some experience with cross-stitch, needlepoint, hand embroidery, or detailed handmade projects.

The stitches themselves are simple, but the project includes smaller details and a few careful finishing steps. If you are patient, comfortable following instructions, and willing to take your time, you can absolutely do this. If this is your very first needlecraft project, I’d recommend starting with one of my simpler beginner-friendly kits first — your future self may thank you.

Care instructions:

Spot clean only if necessary.
Do not soak or machine wash.

Handle your hand-painted canvas with clean, dry hands. Keep the canvas away from moisture before and during stitching, as water may affect the painted design.

Once stitched and assembled inside the acrylic case, display indoors and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, heat, or moisture.

To clean the acrylic case, gently wipe the outside with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid soaking, scrubbing, or using harsh cleaners near the stitched insert.

🧵 What are the different types of kits that are available?

  • In general, I offer three types of physical kits, depending on how many supplies you already have at home and how much of the full stitchy experience you want included:
  • Project Kit:
Best for stitchers who already have a healthy little stash at home — floss, hoops, needles, scissors, and the usual suspects. Project Kits include the special materials needed for that design, such as printed patterns, water-soluble stick-and-stitch transfers, napkins, acrylic cases, or other project-specific pieces. These kits are great when you want the project, but do not need the full supply bundle.
  • Complete Kit:
Best for beginners, gift-givers, or anyone who wants the convenience of opening the package and getting started. Complete Kits include everything you need to begin stitching, including the printed pattern, instructions, DMC floss, and needle. Depending on the project, some Complete Kits may also include extra helpful supplies like fabric, a hoop, a needle threader, or other stitchy goodies.
  • Keepsake Kit:
My most premium kit option. Keepsake Kits are designed for special occasions, meaningful gifts, and heirloom-style projects. These are often made in small quantities, thoughtfully packaged, and may include personalization or extra finishing touches. The goal is for the experience to feel special for both the stitcher and the lucky recipient — because a handmade Jewish keepsake deserves a little fanfare.
  • All available kits are physical products and will be shipped directly to you within the timeframe listed on the product page. Please review the listing photos and description carefully, as each kit may include different materials depending on the design, Chag, or theme.
  • Please feel free to reach out to me for kit customizations. I'm happy to help where possible.

🧵 What if I don't need any more supplies?

  • No problem — your craft stash is safe from judgment over here!
  • If you already have fabric, floss, needles, hoops, and everything else you need, you can purchase the digital pattern only whenever that option is available.
  • Digital patterns include: A PDF pattern, digital instructions, a supply list, instant download access after purchase.
  • This is the best option for stitchers who already have supplies at home and simply want the design.
  • If you see a design you love but want a printed paper copy instead of a digital pattern, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to help where possible.

🧵 Can I sell the items I make from your patterns?

  • Yes. Finished pieces that you have hand-stitched from the exact pattern you have purchased from me may be sold in small quantities. If you’re planning a larger production run, please reach out first.
  • However, Shalom Needlecraft patterns and designs are copyright protected and may not be redistributed, reproduced, altered, or shared in any manner.
  • You do not have my implicit or explicit permission to machine-embroider any of my work.

  • Please understand, these designs are created with a lot of heart (and many late-night floss decisions), so protecting the pattern files helps me keep creating more meaningful patterns for you to stitch.
